DOOL - Peter Reckell

Being a huge fan of Peter Reckell, who plays Bo Brady on Days of our Lives, I was really disappointed that he did not win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series during yesterday's Daytime Emmy Awards. I mean, come on. The acting was awesome and consistent year-round. I just hope DOOL keeps Peter Reckell for a long time, and gives him adequate air time and a good story line, because fans like me just can't get enough of him. I would appreciate it if the next story line moves toward a reuniting of him and Carly Manning. God, I would love for them to get back together. They were last together in the early 1990s.....those were the Days :)

VIA Starbucks Coffee

In case you haven't heard, Starbucks recently introduced "instant" coffee called VIA in three cities - Seattle, Chicago, and London. VIA means "on the road." I managed to get my hands on the two coffee bean varieties currently being sold in this "instant" format - Colombian and Italian Roast.

With great excitement, I boiled a kettle of hot water, placed a satchel of the instant coffee mix in my mug, added the hot water, and finally some cream....and voila, it was ready. I took a sip...and WHAM, my senses were enhanced.....it was absolutely amazing. The coffee was delightful, considering it was instant. It had a nutty flavor (which Colombian coffee, a medium roast, usually has), and the fragrance was very appealing.

On another day, I tried the Italian Roast. Unfortunately, here, my reaction was the opposite. The taste was gag-worthy. Granted, I don't really like dark roast in the first place. But usually, if I am drinking dark roast, and add a sufficient amount of milk, it is fine. In this case though, it still tasted unpleasant......I didn't finish it.

I guess another coffee drinker may feel differently. I, however, have a very low tolerance for bitterness....so, if you are the same, stick with the Colombian Roast and add a sizable dose of milk or cream. Happy Drinking :)

Those "Dreadful Shoes"

About two months ago, I purchased this wonderful pair of adidas sneakers. They are the most comfortable, make running more enjoyable, and I love the dark grey/rave pink color combination. Plus, these sneakers don't get dirty easily.

Anyway, it turns out that I have been receiving quite a lot of flack from a certain someone, who keeps going on and on about the fact that these shoes are absolutely horrendous. I thought this person would snap out of it in the forthcoming weeks, but no, no, this person is most stubborn, and has been insisting that I not wear these shoes in the presence of this person. Ha, ha. It has come to the point where I have been told that I must get a new pair PRONTO. Oh all right, I say. I have no intention of discontinuing wearing this pair, but will interchange it on a regular basis with a new pair...preferably also the adidas brand, because they are just made right.

Dubious Award

If I were to receive a dubious award at a family picnic, it would have to be for most loyal and consistent coffee drinker. Here's my Thank You speech to the crowd:

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I am most gracious and feel honored to have been bestowed with this award. My relationship and loyalty stems back to when I was in college trying with all my heart and soul to keep my eyes open during one of the late classes (or even those early classes), where the subject matter was of such dullness; it is hard to put into words, but just think of Statistics or some other math class spoken in a monotone with a textbook that appears centuries old (yawn!). Sorry, I detract, but here is where I was introduced to the bottle - not alcohol, but the delightful bottle from Starbucks called Frapuccino (Mocha-flavor). Oh, what a delight it was, what a sweet and wonderfully swirling delight. To my pleasant surprise, I noticed the calcium % in this bottle was quite high. Ha, Ha. So I managed to sit through these dull classes, and for this gratitude, I have become a loyal follower of good-quality coffee (but please, can't drink it black....there must be milk). So now that I have received this award, I say cheers. Please raise your coffee mugs, and take a nice long sip.

The 4th of July Party & the Couch

Pretend you're attending a 4th of July party of one of your friends, and everything was fun and games, but suddenly one of the guests breaks a "favorite" possession of the host.

Your friend is absolutely furious and starts screaming hysterically. What kind of a possession would cause such rage? My guess is one of sentimental value that was passed down from generation to generation. Perhaps it is that grey couch. The couch was so old and faded, and frankly, carried an offensive odor that is better left unexplained.

It is rather shocking that the host is so upset, because the rest of the host's family is thrilled that they will no longer have to sit on that nasty old couch, which had taken up permanent residence in the family name for 200 years. The rest of the family is secretly grateful to the guest who had the so-called audacity to jump on the couch after having a few drinks too many with a force so strong, that the couch collapsed into two, and splinters flew all over the place. The couch is now officially worthless. It is time to take a trip to Ikea or some other furniture store and pick up a new one.

Allergies to Something Loved?

It's a rather cruel thought to be allergic to something you loved. Would you give it up or would you not?

For me, if I was allergic to the following items, I think I would go insane if I had to give them up:
1. Medium-roast coffee
2. Ice cream
3. Chocolate (the good quality...not the junk that's 99% high fructose corn syrup....yuck)
4. Feta cheese
5. Lemon juice

I would probably cut down on the above items if I was allergic...but would I be able to give them up? It would all depend on how severe....would it mean I could not breathe after eating it? If that was the case, yes, I'd give it up. But if the reaction was just a minor irritation, I don't think I would.

Jan - May 2009 Reading List

I thought it would be fun to keep a log of all the books I've read thus far in the first five months of 2009, and quickly just give it a rating, so if I'm ever bored and want to go back, I shall remember the title.
